kept telling you fear is just
a thought inside your head.
But danger isn’t, neither is pain.
And the wind, standing up
floorboards beneath your feet,
knuckling windows with branches,
resurrecting worries within your
body that can feel now just how
useless words are when the unknown
waits outside that front door.
Courage, at least a version of it,
is found in being with other people.
You don’t need to be able to explain
where such power comes from.
Together, you stand a better chance
of seeing lights come on in the distance.
