Homecoming: A Shropshire Psalm

Christ of tangled hedgerows,
God of mud-slicked lanes,
Spirit of lichen guarding
ancient windswept stones,
Sanctifier of brownish heather
with stubborn, curling roots:
Enter every common gatepost
to ramble grace-wise with us into
these steep, sheep-covered hills.
Feed us with the sacrament of things
that are rough, and wild, and real.
