overhead, pushing,
underfoot, dragging me
beneath the sound of wind
driving its nails into these
walls and this roof.
Thank you for stone
and rafter isolation
sheltering and covering
like the dignified hands
that hold together seams
of sky and earth.
Thank you for morning
light-fall coating shapes
of trees still standing
outside the fragile miracle
of sills and glass panes
that heard me interrogate
another night of storms
with prayerful questions.
Thank you for safe passage
into the fresh blue silence
of today's new world to love.
