This Morning

I have nothing
to say about the
pinpricks of sunrise
dropping pebbles of
light through summer
leaves into the vast
quietness that knows
itself already.
It speaks.
It tends the world
with questions.
It needs nothing
more from me.
But there’s something
else I want you to hear,
clearly and gently:
Your presence on the Earth
is vital.
Your way of being here
has worth.
Just because a life never fits
easily into systems of profit
or utility doesn’t mean it's
frivolous or nonessential.
Productivity isn’t always
the same thing as fruitful.
Even now, somewhere
there’s a soul breathing
easier because you manner
of existence softened
yesterday’s hard silence.
Thank you for being alive
again this green morning.
